The Leading Cause of Blindness
Who's at Risk?
Glaucoma is a disease that damages your eye’s optic nerve. Glaucoma can cause high eye pressure, however, people with "normal tension glaucoma" have eye pressure that is within normal ranges, but show signs of glaucoma, such as blind spots in their field of vision and optic nerve damage. Most people with open-angle glaucoma do not notice any change in their vision until the damage is quite severe. This is why glaucoma is called the “silent thief of sight.”
Some people are at a higher risk of developing glaucoma due to family history, diabetes, large prescriptions, eye injury, high blood pressure or the use of steroids. If you are at risk for or have been diagnosed with glaucoma our experts are able to offer the right treatment for you including prescription eye drops, and surgical or laser treatments.
Having regular eye exams at STL Vision can help your doctor find this disease before you lose vision.
